Hey Chris why not OpenSuse instead of Fedora it gives you the best of both worlds the Leap for stable or Tumbleweed for rolling option. The packages are tested and the relase cycle is also good and not bleeding edge like with Arch. Also did you do a upgrade during the AUR malware attack and got your system infected or were you just unable to upgrade because the AUR issue is still not resolved and that made you decide to switch now ?

Fedora is a bit more mainstream, but OpenSuse did cross my mind with their open build service. Overall, I think fedora will be a bit more stable and I'd rather build on something more people use.

Just a little surprising, but not completely. The fact the rolling updates caused a person at your tech level enough friction to move away from Arch speaks to guys at my level. I really enjoy using CachyOS, but I spend too much time with AI making sure my system is stable. It is fun, but takes away too much time from me doing actual work. No BS, while typing this comment, Cachy-Updater ran and notified me 15 Updates were available.

Enjoyed watching and reading! I've been there with Arch years ago. I know I'll be laughed out of the room, BUT based on everything you described; if you have an open mind and not already predisposed to long-running mischaracterizations. Then, give Kali Linux with pen-tools unchecked during install a try. Hey Titus, I loved your video. Did you do a livestream on installing fedora server and all the stuffs you need on top of it? If not it would be great if you make one. Also in fedora you have multiple options while installing a piece of software i.e. dnf, copr, rpm, rpm-fusion, flatpak etc. Can you make a video on what do you recommend and why? I just want to know your general take on fedora as a dev OS. Thanks.

I honestly not your are switching from arch to fedora cause I thought you did most of your coding on a different platform did not actually think you were developing all your projects on the arch system and after the aur incident wouldn’t be surprised if most people start switching away at least the people who aren’t comfortable with Linux , reading source code and constantly tinkering with their system.

Ironically, the week of the incident I switched to cachyos on one of my systems cause I heard good things about it but left the other one on mint cause I hate to say it it just works 99.9% of the time

I agree with you. And even with something like CachyOS you only get two of the major issues you identified for "relatively for free":

• you keep backups or snapshots (it's automatic if you use the default install)

And it also comes with a few extra sane defaults for general use. But the rest still applies and I'm also thinking of going with Fedora with KDE Plasma instead of CachyOS.

I am also on CachyOS, I do use the AUR but wasn't affected by this. I am however debating on switching to Nobara and was before you made this video. Thanks Chris!
