Request to update the definition and parent class of employment status #1357

Description

@paulinaschenk

The lead developer of the Population Ontology requested an update to the class 'employment status', as it does not appropriately capture its subclass "unemployed". The issue was recorded as:

  • "Unemployed" is now defined as "An employment status in which the person is not employed or self-employed, is looking for work and able to start in paid employment."
  • However, I don't think "employment status" the most appropriate parent class
  • "employment status" is "A quality inhering in a person by virtue of that person bearing a role realised in an employment process."
  • NB we reuse the OMRSE definition of "employment process" = "A planned process in which the bearer of an employer role provides wages or salary to the bearer of an employee role in fulfilment of the arrangements specified in some declaration.
  • So someone who's unemployed is definitely not bearing a role realised in this process"

The suggested definition update is "A personal attribute relating the bearer to an employment process.", and the parent class would change from 'quality' to 'personal attribute'.
