💡 Enhance VM Creation Wizard with Storage and Boot Order Configuration

Hi bro,

I’d like to suggest an improvement for the Create VM workflow in ExHyperV.

💡 Feature Idea: Complete VM Setup During Creation

Right now, VM creation mainly focuses on selecting the installation media (DVD/ISO). It would be really useful if the Create VM wizard could also include full storage and boot configuration in the same flow.

🧩 Proposed Additions

1. Storage Configuration Step

Add the ability to attach multiple storage types during VM creation:

Virtual Hard Disk (VHD/VHDX)
Virtual Optical Drive (ISO/DVD)
Physical Disk passthrough

2. Automatic Boot Order Integration

Every storage device added in the Storage step should automatically appear in the Boot Order Configuration step.

From there, the user can simply:

Rearrange boot priority
Set the correct boot sequence before finishing VM creation

Example:

EFI SCSI Device – Installation Media (ISO/DVD)
EFI SCSI Device – Virtual Hard Disk (VHDX)
EFI Network Boot

🚀 Expected Benefit
This would allow users to fully configure a VM in one go, without needing to go back into settings after creation.

No need to re-open VM settings to add storage
No need to manually re-add devices to boot order
No need to adjust boot order separately from storage setup
Everything is ready before clicking Create VM

🎯 Goal
The goal is to make ExHyperV more flexible and self-contained, so it can handle the full Hyper-V VM setup experience directly within the creation wizard, without switching back and forth between settings.

The idea is good, but it won't work. Creating a virtual machine is a pre-operational process; the boot order and hardware passthrough can only be determined after the virtual machine is actually created. Therefore, the longer the creation workflow is built, the easier it is to mess up simple tasks. I believe the boot order and hardware passthrough should be performed after the virtual machine is successfully created. After creation, an increased priority for CD-ROM booting has been added, which should be sufficient for personal users.

Yes you are right I check the ExHyperV when creating a VM its actually the same as the Hyper-V
Sorry I was expecting so much, comparing it to VMware and Virtualbox...
Hyper-v is different....

If its not possible its ok...

This suggestion is for already created VM....

I want to suggest now is to add an option inside the Boot
-- option to Modify the DVD or drive for Iso...

To make things faster in changing ISO cause we always do things with ISO with hyper-v....
So instead of going inside the Storage modify the ISO... going back again to boot change the boot order...

We only just go to Boot and from there we can adjust boot order at the same time perform the changing the ISO....
This will make it less hassle don't you think....

I also notice when I add 2 DVD bootable ISO..

1. windows10
2. windows11

then I put the boot order of Number 2 (windows11) at the very top of the boot order...

So its like this...

windows11
HD
windows10
Network

but when I do a restart...

its booting the Windows10, why is that... I put the windows 11 at the very top of the boot order so it should boot first...

So what I did to make the window11 to boot...
I remove the Windows10 from the storage...

now the windows11 is booting....

I think its must be bug...
try it..
attach 2 bootable DVD iso....

The very top bootable ISO you put is not running...
its always the second ISO....

Putting it at the very top means that should boot first right you should check this out bro...
Its not respecting the Booting order...

I already set it to offline...

Even Online its the same cannot be click??

But on Hyper-V with Offline its showing... I thought you already fixed this bro?

Hi bro please add version inside the About and not just only V1.5.0-Beta
Add also the commit number so we would know the build we are using is the correct one that is updated...

example The latest commit we have today is #217

Then add that number on the About
V1.5.0-Beta #217

so we know that that the ExHyperV we are using the one that has already fixed something... rather than just nothing showing but only V1.5.0-Beta

So how would I know the version I build yesterday the one that has the fixed you made....

cause this is the only one I see....

The USB issue has been fixed in commit 8fc6c91; please build version 0712 for testing.

The USB disk I have can be offline manually

but when clicking the confirm I can see that its trying to make the USB Disk Offline but failed....

so It was not able to add it, then its gone...

This one still have some issue...

But on Hyper-V its ok but manually
