Crashes audio playback/editing in Final Cut Pro

macOS 26.4.1 on M1 pro with FCP:CS 12.0 or 12.2
audio gets distorted after some minutes of editing/manipulation and then muted. restarting FCP resets it, but it happens again. behaviour can be reset by completely uninstalling QuickLookVideo, disabling media extensions alone does not help.
