Observe 4.x workflow compatibility before the next core major

Goal

Measure real use of the released Python 4.x workflow imports and console commands before any next-major removal decision.

Compatibility surfaces under observation

• hwpx.agent and the hwpx agent CLI;
• authoring, builder, design, presets, template analysis, and hwpx-analyze-template;
• official lint, PII policy, page guard, table compute, and hwpx-page-guard;
• form-fill, eval-plan, and exam workflow imports;
• Hancom/runtime-facing visual compatibility members;
• comparison-plan, default-policy mail merge, and visual redline verification wrappers.

The MCP companion is now the canonical application owner for these workflows, while python-hwpx 4.x remains the operational compatibility owner. Generic document, OXML, package, mutation, preservation, diff, placeholder, and tracked-change structure primitives remain core responsibilities.

Observation window

From 2026-07-24 through 2026-10-31 (KST), spanning at least 90 days. We will record:

• public code and package/document references, with search limits reported;
• issue and user feedback;
• migration-guide gaps;
• parity, rollback, and clean-install regressions.

Known public code references already include direct builder, template-analysis, official-lint, mail-merge, and CLI documentation consumers. Therefore no zero-use claim is made.

Feedback requested

If you directly import one of these modules or run the affected console commands, please comment with the import/command, your python-hwpx version, and whether an MCP replacement is practical.

No import or CLI is removed by this issue. Any removal requires a separate next-major decision after the observation window, fresh parity/rollback evidence, and explicit review.

Update (2026-07-28): closing this observation window early, by maintainer decision. It was planned through 2026-10-31; after reviewing the evidence collected so far I am proceeding with the next major now.

What protects existing users:

• python-hwpx 4.2.0 stays on PyPI indefinitely.
• hwpx-mcp-server 5.1.1 (published yesterday) caps its core requirement to <5, so existing installs keep resolving core 4.2.x — verified against a live resolver.
• Every workflow surface removed from core 5.x continues, maintained, in python-hwpx-automation with a migration guide.
• The hwpx-mcp-server name continues as a compatibility distribution through 6.x, and its removal is a separate decision not before 7.0 and only after at least 90 further days of observation.

The initial census already identified the known public consumers — no zero-use claim was made then or now. If a 4.x import or console you rely on is not covered by the migration guide, please comment — this issue stays open as the feedback channel during the transition.

Released (2026-07-28). The next-major train announced above is now fully public and observed end to end:

• python-hwpx 5.0.1 — PyPI + GitHub Release (digests matched, attestations + SBOM attached). v5.0.0 is a preserved failed tag; nothing was published under it.
• python-hwpx-automation 6.0.4 (canonical) and hwpx-mcp-server 6.0.4 (compatibility shell) — PyPI + GitHub Release from the renamed repository. v6.0.0–v6.0.3 are preserved failed tags (one of them, v6.0.3, published the canonical distribution only; 6.0.4 restored the exact canonical==compat lock).
• hwpx-plugin 1.0.0 — GitHub Release + marketplace, verified with a real codex plugin install resolving the exact live pins (python-hwpx[preview]==5.0.1, python-hwpx-automation[mcp,oracle]==6.0.4, contract 0ce938371f0b55a6).

Existing 5.x installs remain protected by hwpx-mcp-server 5.1.1 (python-hwpx<5 cap, published 2026-07-27 and verified against a live resolver). Every workflow surface removed from core 5.x continues, maintained, in python-hwpx-automation; the hwpx-mcp-server name continues as a compatibility distribution and console through 6.x, with removal not before 7.0 and only after at least 90 further days of observation. This issue stays open as the migration feedback channel.
