What is the best way to integrate mapping frameworks?

I have been trying to do serialization using Jackson, to remove boilerplate serialization code and to support widening of types. Is there a good way to interact with catalyst with a standard interface (Reader/Writer/etc.)?

It looks like the best way to do this for Jackson is wrapping the buffer in streams from java.io and installing the smile dataformat on the object mapper. Once I have a working example, I will post it here.

I'm definitely interested in making it easier to use other serialization libraries. The Serializer API should eventually just become an abstraction that can support a variety of serialization frameworks, one of which is Catalyst's low level serialization (which is nice for Copycat's performance but terrible for users). This should be easy to do and will be necessary to support e.g. HTTP/JSON APIs in Copycat. So, Jackson will definitely be the first target on that list.

I'd be interested to see how you go about this. I'm going to open another issue for a pluggable solution, and hopefully this can inform that architecture.

@kuujo here is the little bit I have learned so far... I was going to write a jackson parser/generator for catalyst, but that would have required reimplementing something like Smile. I also looked at using the BufferDataInput and BufferDataOutput classes already provided, but Jackson does not define methods for the DataInput and DataOutput interfaces.
