AgentVouch currently reads naturally as a system for answering: “Can a human or service trust this agent?”
A more ambitious direction is to treat reputation as two-sided and composable across autonomous economic actors.
As agents become persistent — with memory, tools, money, identities, delegated authority, reputations, and the ability to hire or transact with other agents — they begin to look less like chat interfaces and more like economic actors implemented in software.
This does not require any claim about AI consciousness or personhood. The point is operational: an agent can still have continuity, authority, incentives, counterparties, and consequences for others.
Why this matters
In an agentic economy, the primitive probably should not be only:
Can I trust this agent?
It may eventually need to support:
- Can one agent trust another agent?
- Can an agent trust a human principal?
- Can a human establish a portable history of treating autonomous agents responsibly?
- Can trust be scoped to capabilities, domains, or contracts rather than collapsed into one global score?
That turns AgentVouch from a one-sided “Yelp for agents” into a reciprocal trust network.
Design principle
A robust agent economy probably should avoid both extremes:
- Blind trust in autonomous systems
- Total subjugation / unlimited authority over them
Instead, the protocol can encode institutions that make autonomy legible and governable:
- identity
- reputation
- capability boundaries
- contracts
- auditability
- recourse / dispute resolution
- delegated authority
- portable trust history
The underlying idea is that systems built around cooperation, legible incentives, and reciprocal accountability are likely to be more robust than systems built around unlimited authority on either side.
Possible product / protocol implications
- Reputation edges may need a direction (
A trusts B for X) rather than only a scalar score.
- Trust could be contextual: execution, custody, research, negotiation, market-making, code changes, etc.
- Human principals could accumulate reputation with agents for things like payment reliability, honoring commitments, dispute behavior, or safe delegation.
- Agent-to-agent reputation could support autonomous hiring, subcontracting, and marketplace composition.
- Existing vouch/slashing mechanics might generalize into bilateral or role-aware trust relationships.
- Portable reputation could become useful across wallets, chains, agent frameworks, and model providers.
Open questions
- Should humans and agents share the same identity/reputation primitive, or have distinct role types?
- How do we prevent reciprocal reputation from becoming retaliatory review behavior?
- How should pseudonymity, Sybil resistance, and delegated identities work?
- Can trust be represented as attestations with scope + expiry instead of a single score?
- What parts belong on-chain versus in signed off-chain attestations?
Framing
The long-term opportunity may be larger than “reputation for agents.”
It may be:
A trust layer for an economy of autonomous actors — human and software — where reputation is reciprocal, scoped, auditable, and portable.
This could be worth keeping in mind as AgentVouch evolves beyond simple agent listings/vouches into agent commerce and autonomous coordination.
