upstream contact for packaging to Debian #26

Description

@nbehrnd

@dougn , @ericfrederich , @SamuelMarks , @abulka

There is ongoing work to package python-plantuml to Linux Debian (see ITP bug, preliminary upload to Debian's mentors-page, and subsequent RFS bug). Though optional to current Debian Policy 4.7.4.1, 2026-03-31 (see section 5.1 here) and the project's maintenance witnesses some pause, this note reaches out to you as project owner, or contributor with the question if one of you wants to serve as upstream contact.

Ideally, a volunteer serving as upstream contact to Debian contributed for long to the upstream project (i.e., in this case, python-plantuml) and thus is both familiar i) with the technical design, and ii) the reasoning why the project facing critical crossroads choose one, but not another possible design. If you want to step in, contact Alex, the perspective Debian maintainer mentioned on the corresponding mentors-page.
