Parent

- Vision:
DevOps/Vision.md
Goal
Define the core document lifecycle for AA98_AvlnCodeStudio so editor documents can be created, opened, modified, saved, and closed through a reusable and extensible framework model.
Scope
- Define document lifecycle states and transitions.
- Establish baseline document actions such as new, open, save, save as, and close.
- Clarify dirty-state handling and document identity.
- Prepare the lifecycle model for later multi-document and richer editor workflows.
Included
- Document state model
- Lifecycle transitions
- Core document actions
- Dirty-state tracking
- Save-related workflow boundaries
Excluded for Now
- Full recovery/session restore workflows
- Advanced conflict resolution
- Complex external file change handling
- Rich undo/redo orchestration across multiple documents
Success Indicators
- Document actions are modeled consistently and can be reused by shell command surfaces.
- The editor framework has a clear lifecycle baseline for later expansion.
- Later multi-document and file-type-specific features can build on the same model.
Candidate Backlog Items
- Define document lifecycle states and transitions
- Standardize core document actions and responsibilities
- Clarify dirty-state and save behavior baseline
- Connect document lifecycle to shell command surfaces
Assumptions
- Stable editing workflows are more important than advanced editor intelligence in early increments.
- The first lifecycle model should remain provider-agnostic and UI-independent where practical.
Open Questions
- When should close-with-unsaved-changes confirmation become mandatory?
- How early should external file change detection be introduced?
