8.0.1 Released

There will be an 8.0.1 release in the not-too-distant future.

This release is to try to address some small problems with the 8.0.0 release.

• To support marimo in mathics-notebook-frontends we support the latest numpy (2.2.2).
• Documentation tagging in LaTeX and Django has improved where we can better support TeX mathmode. Tagging in the documentation has been gone over to reflect this.
• I hope we will be able to address whatever problems there are in Test suite failures when running pytest #1346
• Mention will be made regarding the Mathics3 live and the new notebook code.

Regarding documentation, something that I would like to finish is to remove and fix tags. Then, I will happy to go ahead with the release.

What exactly does this mean? There is a tendency to go off on tangents. Why is this important now?

I am talking about this:

is a tag invented for the documentation system, that barely works on Mathics-Django, but not in the LaTeX documentation. The plan is imply to fix it by fixing <img>, which currently does not work in any of both documentation systems, and use it when it is needed. This involves just few changes in 1-Manual.mdoc and in both parsers.

I will work on adding the final icosahedron in asymptote and look at the openSUSE issue and possibly why CI does not work in Mathics-Django from PyPI sources. (I am hoping both are nothing more serious than path issues).

OK. I will check. I just relied on the results of the tests on conda-forge.

When I install in a fresh environment,

conda create -n mathics801 mathics3

Python 3.11 and Numpy 1.26 are installed. Then, when I activate the environment and run mathics, I do not get any error.
Now I am trying to force using numpy 2.1 to see if the error shows up.

I test against the lastest version of Miniconda:

(base) mauricio@mauricio-T15thinkpad:~$ conda -V
conda 4.11.0

I installed it with the following commands (https://docs.anaconda.com/miniconda/install/#quick-command-line-install)
mkdir -p ~/miniconda3
wget https://repo.anaconda.com/miniconda/Miniconda3-latest-Linux-x86_64.sh -O ~/miniconda3/miniconda.sh
bash ~/miniconda3/miniconda.sh -b -u -p ~/miniconda3
rm ~/miniconda3/miniconda.sh

Then, I create a fresh environment, with Python 3.12.8:

conda create -n mathics801 python=3.12.8

Then I activate it, and install mathics3:

conda activate mathics801
conda install mathics3

Finally I run mathics and run without error messages:
