Crossbuilding for 2 and 3 made sense at one time, years ago, but I think it no longer makes sense and is just holding us back.
We could do this in a new major version.
(And if the old major version really needed some critical security update or something, we could cross that bridge when we came to it and issue an update from a maintenance branch. But I think that's a low-probability event.)
