How to use the "Scan Repository" feature

In the new tab screen, I can see a barcode scanner icon that will open up a dialog says "Scan repositories"

I assume this is a dialog that I could enter a path that contains a lot of git repo, and then it will scan the subfolders under that path? If so, I did that and attempt to click "OK", but sadly the "OK" button does nothing.

I tested this under both Windows and macOS, both does nothing when clicking OK.

Is this a bug or did I use it in a incorrect way? How can I understand this feature?

Your description is completely correct. The only thing to note is that this function will only scan subdirectories up to 5 levels deep under the given RootDir.

I tested this under both Windows and macOS, both does nothing when clicking OK.

I just tested it on my macOS and Windows. I can not reproduce this issue. Everything works as expected.

For my case it's only 1 level but it simply didn't do anything (the dialog itself didn't even disappear when I click the OK button).

How can I troubleshoot this? I can reproduce this on both Windows and macOS (while I cannot access my mac within this week), but not sure what/where to look. I also didn't find any log file,

In the code, only when the 63rd line, Directory.Exists(selectedDir), returns false, will there be no other visual effects as you mentioned, and the window will close directly. In other cases, either the scanning process as shown in the figure below will be displayed, or an error prompt will pop up.

BTW, I also don't know what does "Scan another custom directory" mean. If I uncheck that checkbox, the path edit will turn into blank:

Without Scan another custom directory enabled, the input control of Root Dir is a ComboBox (instead of TextBox) that contains two type of paths:

• Global Default Clone Dir which can be changed from Preferences window
• Current workspace's Default Clone Dir which can be changed from Workspaces window

If you have installed Visual Studio or Rider with .NET 9 SDK environment, you can debug this project (simply open the SourceGit.slnx) to see why the method Sure in src/ViewModels/ScanRepositories.cs is not called after clicking button OK

I also tested this under Linux (using the AppImage version), and also get the vary same behavior that as I recorded on Windows 😂

I barely know C#. I will attempt to debug this when I got time. Thanks for the info about the related code :)

I find a way to reproduce this BUG. It's just because that both global and workspace default clone dir are not configured and then ScanDir validation failed. See code (line 28):

Or you can simply configure a default clone dir to avoid this issue.

I tested the CI build and it works fine. I don't really rely on this feature so I will wait for the next update to update the app on my other devices. Thanks for the fast response and fix :)
