Basic Chatbot

Overview

This project is a simple rule-based chatbot built using Python. It demonstrates the use of if-elif statements, functions, loops, and input/output to simulate basic conversation with predefined responses.

Features

Responds to greetings like "hello", "hi", "hey". Handles small talk such as "how are you". Ends the chat politely when the user says "bye", "goodbye", or "see you". Provides a default reply for unknown inputs.

Key Concepts Used

Functions: Encapsulate chatbot logic (chatbot_response()). Conditional statements (if-elif): Match user input to predefined replies. Loops: Keep the chatbot running until the user exits. Input/Output: Interactive conversation with the user.

How to Run

1.Save the Python script as chatbot.py. 2.Run the program: python chatbot.py 3.Type your messages and interact with the chatbot. 4.Exit by typing "bye" or "goodbye".

Example Interaction

'''''' Chatbot is running... (type 'bye' to exit) You: hello Bot: Hi there! You: how are you Bot: I'm fine, thanks! You: see you later Bot: Goodbye! ''''''

Future Improvements

1.Add support for more small talk (e.g., “What’s your name?”, “What can you do?”). 2.Use regular expressions for smarter keyword matching. 3.Implement pattern-based responses for flexible conversation. 4.Integrate Natural Language Processing (NLP) libraries like NLTK or spaCy for advanced understanding. 5.Connect to external APIs (e.g., weather, jokes, news) for dynamic replies. 6.Build a GUI version using Tkinter or PyQt for a more user-friendly interface.
