Work with the Training Team to redesign the Competency Hub's accordion lists so they better support the primary user needs of education and comparing competencies or roles.
Background and rationale
The vf-details report found that the Competency Hub uses a modified vf-details implementation to display large form content and visual grades across too many rows and other non-accordion criteria.
This content is part of the main experience: users need it to review their skills against competency requirements and compare roles. Hiding it creates several problems:
- primary content is unavailable until users interact;
- the amount of content is too large for a disclosure;
- users cannot easily compare related information across closed rows;
- the accordion structure is being used for a core workflow rather than supplementary help.
The report recommends moving this experience to a pattern better suited to large, essential and comparable content, such as a dedicated page, panel, modal or tab structure.
This ticket should explore alternative design solutions for this content - in partnership with the training team.
User story
As a Competency Hub user, I need to review and compare competency information without repeatedly opening and closing long sections so that I can understand skill expectations and make informed development decisions.
Proposed work
- Partner with the Training Team and the current service owner.
- Map the primary tasks users complete with the competency content.
- Review the volume, hierarchy and comparability of the content currently placed in each disclosure.
- Identify and prototype a pattern that keeps essential information available and supports comparison.
- Validate the preferred approach with representative users and relevant stakeholders.
Out of scope
- Reworking unrelated Competency Hub workflows.
- Creating a generic accordion component for the Visual Framework.
- Prescribing a specific replacement pattern before the content and task review is complete.
