Clean up main nav #21

Description

@sarah37

We should simplify the main navigation a bit. Currently looks like this:

I would suggest something like this:

  • Home
  • Research
  • Publications
  • People
  • Outreach Activities
  • Teaching
  • Equipment
  • Resources for students
  • Jobs & PhD positions

I would suggest to format it so that each item is on its own line on desktop. For the mobile layout we can keep them condensed as they are currently. I would probably replace the - with | though.

Even better would be to combine some of these pages or create subpages (with subnavigations). Nine items is still a lot for a top level nav.

Removed items:

  • There's a projects & tools page that only has two things on it. Maybe this could be combined into the Research list on the home page?
  • Student projects - this is an external link to the datafairs website. I'd say its confusing to have an external link in the main site nav, it's linked in the community activities section anyway and also has not been updated in a while, so I think it's ok to remove here.
  • remove the vishub.net link at the bottom - people are already on the vishub site if they're seeing this link, plus the logo and the "Home" link both link to the homepage.
