Is the google play store version functional?

I found the app in the play store and install went smoothly but when trying to connect after entering the Pifire IPaddress I get an error that states "failed to retrieve settings from server. please check your connection and verify your server version is compatible" . I have my phone only using wifi and I'm able to see the dashboard through the webapp. any suggestions?
I am running Pifire 1.3.5 master branch

Ok so I figured out that you have to have the push notification (onesignal enabled) toggled on. this can be found in the webapp at settings and notifications.
