Welcome to the MFN_Programs-and-skims wiki!
This repository includes procedures to maintain and update CMAP's Master Freight Network (MFN) and Freight Skims.
Conceptual Background
CMAP's Master Freight Network (MFN) is primarily used to develop Freight Skim inputs that are used in CMAP's Freight Forecasting Model.
The MFN is composed of different node and link networks. For the highway and rail portion of the network, additional network detail is provided for the CMAP region.
- Highway
- Rail
- Inland Waterway
- Crude Oil
- Coal NEC
- Petroleum
All the network information is static across time except for the CMAP highway network. The CMAP highway network is updated biannually as a subset of CMAP's Master Highway Network (MHN). Because of this, future year freight skims predominantly reflect variation in the CMAP region highway network.
The Freight Skims currently support two different model run scenarios:
- 100: logistics node 140 not active any years
- 200: logistics node 140 active all years
The general workflow is as follows:
MFN Maintenance and Batchin File Generation
- Generate highway portion of the MFN from recent MHN
- Assemble complete MFN geodatabase
- Highway links and nodes
- Rail links, nodes, and itineraries
- Pipeline network links and nodes
- Waterway network links and nodes
- Apply any manual updates to the network geodatabase as needed
- Generate EMME batchin files from the MFN
- Generate additional freight skimming inputs from the TBM
- Run freight skims
