Translations for static interface text on EOL are provided by Translatewiki. See their FAQs if you'd like to get involved.

Common names

Common names, like other EOL content (e.g., trait data, images), are provided by many sources. Providers include language/locale codes to allow us to identify the language a given name belongs to.

Term Label Translation

APIs

We have a system for fetching term label translations and writing them to the usual YAML files for providers that have APIs with translations available. At this stage we have adapters for geonames.org and wikidata.org, and have deployed translations fetched from those providers. See lib/tasks/term_names.rake and lib/term_names.rb for entry points into the code.

Translatewiki

We have also included some terms for translation in the config/locales/en.yml master used by Translatewiki. Translations for these terms will come online as we receive them. There is a section at the end of the file with a label "Terms". Terms for each provider should be listed separately in the manner of the previous entries.
