Quire

An independent type foundry, as a concept site. Three families, a specimen page for each, and licence terms written like somebody meant them.

Live: quire.signalizeai.org

Why this one looks like this

A foundry site is judged on its typography before anyone reads a word of it, so the identity here is scale and rule weight rather than colour. One warm ink accent appears on about six things in the whole site; everything else is black on a paper warm enough to stop the black vibrating.

The specimens are real text set in the real faces, not images: the waterfalls, the glyph grid and the display lines all select, scale and read to a screen reader as the type they are showing.

Pages

Route What it is
/ The catalogue, opening on a specimen rather than a headline
/typefaces All three families with waterfalls and metrics
/typefaces/[slug] A specimen page per family: display, passage, glyphs, axes
/licensing Three licences, the terms, and the questions we get
/foundry Who draws these and how slowly

Built with

Astro, static output, Tailwind v4, one React island for the nav. Three variable families from Fontsource: Newsreader, Bricolage Grotesque and JetBrains Mono.

Everything is a static file. The only client JavaScript is the nav island and a scroll reveal, and the whole site reads with JavaScript disabled, which is checked rather than assumed.

Develop

npm ci
npm run dev
npm test # catalogue and nav
npm run build
