This introduces a dedicated Progress area so users have a clear place to explore exercise-specific stats today, while giving us the right foundation to add PBs and broader tracking features later. The updated floating tab styling also makes the screen feel more modern and intentional, closer to the island-style navigation patterns seen in many current apps, with better readability and visual separation while scrolling.

Oh very cool! It's something I've thought of doing in the past too, combining history and stats.

Unfortunately I probably will not go for the floating / island style tabs, preferring to remain within the Material UI 3 component set where possible. Would you be open to splitting out the relayout from the navigation tabs change, and I guess also using the tabbed ui that we use in the feed page for the top tabs?

It's important to me that even if it may not look the most modern or the best that as much as possible we use components that come from the same design system to keep it consistent, but also to reduce cognitive load when I go to implement features. If there's a component I use it, if there's not maybe I try and constrain my design to somehow use those components. It's less freedom, but it makes it less tricky for me who is not as design oriented
