Phillip Pieterse — Logistics Operations and Software Systems

Hi, I’m Phillip Pieterse 👋

Logistics Operations Leader · Software Builder · Founder of RouteFoundry Technologies

I turn messy operational processes into clear workflows, useful dashboards and reliable software.

About Me

I’m a logistics operations professional and software builder based in South Africa.

My background comes from hands-on national courier and logistics operations, where I worked across first-mile, middle-mile, last-mile and returns workflows. I have led distributed operational teams, managed performance reporting, developed procedures and helped turn complex operational problems into practical processes.

Today, I combine that experience with software engineering.

I am the founder of RouteFoundry Technologies, a South African technology company building practical websites, dashboards, workflows, operational systems and software products.

I am also building the Logistics Intelligence Platform, an enterprise-focused logistics control tower designed to help operations teams understand what is happening, what needs attention and what action should happen next.

I do not just want to build software for operators. I want to build software that operators would genuinely choose to use.

What I’m Building

Project Purpose Status
RouteFoundry Technologies Practical websites, dashboards, workflow tools and custom operational systems Active business
OpsTower Case Study A sanitized case study of a working courier operations-intelligence platform Published portfolio case study
Logistics Intelligence Platform A secure, organization-aware logistics control tower for visibility, decisions, reporting and automation Active private development
Morning Operations Snapshot An interactive operational briefing and dashboard demonstration Demonstration complete
RouteFoundry AI Skills Reusable AI workflows for logistics, operations and software development Early private exploration

Featured Case Study: OpsTower

OpsTower is a sanitized portfolio case study documenting how firsthand courier-operations experience was translated into a working operations-intelligence platform.

The historical system supported capabilities including:

  • consolidated operational visibility;
  • prioritized exception management;
  • time-aware morning, afternoon and close-out reporting;
  • scheduled nationwide operational notifications;
  • automated invoice verification;
  • reviewable route-planning workflows;
  • background synchronization and recovery;
  • controlled administrative access.

The public case study contains no original source code, employer or customer identities, production data, credentials or confidential operational rules.

It documents the problem-solving journey, architecture, design decisions, working deployment and lessons that later shaped the Logistics Intelligence Platform.

Logistics Intelligence Platform

The Logistics Intelligence Platform, or LIP, is a modern logistics control tower designed to turn operational data into clear decisions.

The long-term vision is to connect:

  • Shipments
  • Branches
  • Vehicles
  • Drivers
  • Alerts
  • Reports
  • Integrations
  • Operational workflows
  • Future AI capabilities

The platform is being developed as a secure, organization-aware system rather than a collection of disconnected dashboards.

Current engineering focus

  • Identity and access architecture
  • Organization-aware role-based authorization
  • Secure invitation and account-activation workflows
  • Session and credential lifecycle design
  • PostgreSQL data integrity
  • Auditability and security boundaries
  • Operationally reliable backend services

Technology

  • Next.js
  • NestJS
  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL
  • Prisma
  • Docker
  • pnpm
  • Turborepo
  • GitHub Actions

LIP follows a documentation-first development approach:

Documentation leads. Code follows.

Major product, security and architecture decisions are defined and reviewed before production implementation begins.

Morning Operations Snapshot

The Morning Operations Snapshot is an interactive portfolio demonstration showing how operational information can be turned into a calm, decision-focused daily briefing.

It includes:

  • Headline operational indicators
  • A structured daily briefing
  • Port, road, weather and cost-pressure summaries
  • Recent operational alerts
  • Logistics headlines
  • An accessible Operational Pressure Index
  • Responsive desktop and mobile layouts

All values used in the demonstration are deterministic, fictional prototype data. It does not claim to connect to live providers or use former-employer data.

That boundary matters to me: a demonstration should be impressive without pretending to be something it is not.

What I Bring

Operations Engineering
National courier and logistics experience Backend and platform architecture
First-, middle- and last-mile workflows TypeScript and Node.js development
Returns and exception management REST API design and integrations
Operational KPIs and reporting PostgreSQL and data modelling
SOP and process development Authentication and authorization design
Distributed team leadership Automated testing and CI/CD
Root-cause investigation Secure system boundaries
Translating operational pain into requirements Accessible and responsive interfaces

My strongest skill sits between these two columns:

Understanding the operational problem deeply enough to build the right technical solution.

Engineering Principles

The principles guiding my current work are:

  1. Operational clarity over decorative complexity
  2. Secure defaults over temporary shortcuts
  3. Documentation before production implementation
  4. Small, reviewable changes over uncontrolled rewrites
  5. Automated safeguards over manual memory
  6. Honest prototypes over fictional production claims
  7. Decisions matter more than dashboards

I prefer systems that are calm, understandable, testable and deliberate.

Current Focus

I am currently focused on:

  • Advancing LIP’s identity, access and onboarding foundations
  • Building RouteFoundry into a client-ready studio and product company
  • Developing secure backend and workflow architectures
  • Creating reusable automation patterns for logistics operations
  • Improving my practical knowledge of APIs, SQL, Python and dashboards
  • Exploring reusable AI skills and agent-assisted workflows
  • Strengthening secure application, identity and platform engineering

Topics I Enjoy

You can ask me about:

  • Courier and logistics operations
  • First-, middle- and last-mile workflows
  • Operational dashboards
  • Shipment and exception reporting
  • Process automation
  • API integrations
  • PostgreSQL and Prisma
  • Backend architecture
  • Authentication and authorization
