Most of my best work didn't start as a clean spec — it started as a vague problem, a broken system, or a startup idea that needed someone to figure out the how. I've spent the last several years on that side of the table: untangling architecture decisions, building things that have to survive contact with real users, and shipping when "later" wasn't an option.
I've co-founded two startups (an EdTech platform and a fintech analytics tool), which means I've debugged production issues at 2am, made the call on what to cut to hit a deadline, and lived with the consequences of my own architecture choices. That changes how you build.
- Untangling messy systems — legacy code, undocumented APIs, half-finished features. I read the room before I write code.
- Picking the right tool, not the trendy one — Laravel for a content-heavy app, FastAPI for a lightweight service, React Native when a PWA won't cut it.
- Owning outcomes, not tickets — if the payment flow breaks at 11pm, that's still my problem.
- Talking to non-technical stakeholders — translating "the app feels slow" into an actual diagnosis and fix.
