🎓 Bachelor's Thesis

Control System for Cooling, Condensation, and Water Recirculation

Platform: Emerson Ovation 4 | Institution: Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (2026)

  • Modeled and implemented a full control system for a Rankine-cycle process, focusing on condenser pressure, condensate level, and recirculation flow control.
  • Designed Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), PI controllers, automatic start/stop sequences, redundancy mechanisms, interlock logic, and complete operator graphics.
  • Validated the system through open-loop identification, comparison with MATLAB models, real-time logic verification, and rigorous fault-scenario testing.

⚙️ Process Control & Industrial Automation

  • Automated Level Control System (Festo Process Control Station): Modeled and controlled the liquid level of a two-tank laboratory station using a PLC-based control loop (Siemens Simatic S7-300). Derived a nonlinear Simulink model from first principles and identified a linear first-order model from step-response data. Tuned PI controllers using pole-placement and Nichols-chart approaches, and validated feedforward and cascade control structures for disturbance rejection.
  • Boiler-Turbine-Generator Control System: Designed principal automatic control loops for a radial power system (live-steam pressure, drum water level, active power, frequency regulation). Derived FOPDT transfer function models and tuned PI/PID/PD controllers using the modulus criterion and Ziegler-Nichols method. Validated loops via Simulink simulation.
  • Self-Balancing Two-Wheeled Transporter: Developed cascade control logic to stabilize an unstable transporter and track a reference trajectory. Identified 12 linear transfer functions and a 10-state MIMO model; designed inner-loop PID (tilt) and outer-loop PI (position) controllers via the imposed phase-margin method.

💻 Software Engineering & Machine Learning

  • SmartGreen - Greenhouse Management System: An IoT and Machine Learning-based system built on a dataset of 37,922 records. Developed a Python (Flask) backend using pandas, scikit-learn, and statsmodels, paired with a React dashboard offering Automatic, Manual, Eco, and Emergency modes. Implemented regression models for actuator control and an ARIMA model for 6-hour temperature forecasting.
  • StoryShare Community: A full-stack Java platform for e-book lending and collaborative book writing. Designed the complete system architecture, including use-case and sequence diagrams.
  • Recipe Generator Web App: Full-stack application suggesting recipes based on available ingredients. Includes secure authentication, an admin panel, and a shopping cart with email delivery and password recovery.
  • Small Java Projects: A collection of utility applications demonstrating core software engineering practices (Calculator, Clock, Dynamic Array, Text Editor, Encryption Program, Stopwatch).

🔌 Embedded Systems & Hardware

  • Digital Circuit Fault Testing: Built a CMOS combinational circuit and derived a minimal stuck-at-fault test set via fault collapsing. Automated the testing process using Arduino and LED fault indicators.
  • Air Quality Monitoring: Arduino-based embedded alert system for pollution thresholds, featuring custom test sets and circuit design.

🧮 Applied Mathematics & Research

  • Intelligent Urban Traffic Management: Authored a comprehensive research grant proposal for an open-data traffic system (integrating GTFS, OpenStreetMap, Copernicus). Proposed an architecture utilizing LSTM/GRU/Transformer + GNN models, complete with budget allocation, Gantt scheduling, and risk management.
  • MATLAB Control & Optimization Suite: A collection of collaborative and individual scripts covering Linear Regression, NARX models, optimization algorithms (Newton, gradient, simplex), and an Automatic Control Lab suite (system identification, digital regulators, cascade control, power-frequency regulation, motor speed control).
