abstract: OPEN-PROM is a global energy-system simulation model based on the PROMETHEUS modelling framework.
It is a recursive-dynamic model that simulates the year-by-year evolution of energy demand, energy supply,
technology deployment, and emissions under alternative socioeconomic, technological, and policy assumptions,
while explicitly accounting for path dependencies and transition dynamics. The model provides a detailed
representation of energy demand across the industry, transport, and residential sectors, alongside energy supply,
power generation, and fuel-transformation technologies, and it captures the interactions between energy consumption,
fuel use, industrial production, and technology adoption. This structure makes OPEN-PROM well suited to analysing
industrial decarbonisation pathways, resource-efficiency measures, energy transitions,
and climate-policy scenarios at both the European and global levels.
