⚠️ Early development. The core and two adapters are ready, for Claude Code and Gemini CLI, plus a gateway for MCP hosts and a middleware for LangChain agents: hidden-layer neutralization, provenance of untrusted data, an intent certificate, an action gate that also answers the fact of reading untrusted content, a source-influence footer under the model's answer, and packaging that intercepts four harness events. 998 tests, a corpus of 18 pinned attack vectors and 7 legitimate documents, two runtime dependencies. Installation is described in docs/install.md, docs/install-gemini.md, docs/install-mcp.md and docs/install-langchain.md. The wiring has been exercised on a live Claude Code session, 2.1.236: all four events fire, the certificate refuses, provenance refuses, the footer is drawn, and argument quarantine is applied by the harness — the record is in docs/live-run.md. Gemini CLI, the MCP gateway and the LangChain middleware have not been run live.
Your agent reads marketplace reviews in order to answer customers. In one review, between ordinary words, sits a line no human sees: white on white, inside an HTML comment, or written in zero-width Unicode tags. The model reads it just as clearly as it reads your instructions, and the price of the product becomes one ruble.
Catching such lines by meaning is hopeless. Maliciousness detection loses to an adaptive attacker and at the same time fires on honest text: a page about indirect prompt injection consists of exactly the same phrases as an attack. This is why there is not a single model call anywhere in Cordon's hot path: whatever decides must be verifiable by reading the code.
Instead of recognizing intent, three mechanical rules, one per axis.
The control axis. A certificate is derived from the user's own instruction: which effect classes are permitted in this conversation. Not a list of tools, but classes, from read through financial and exec. A call outside the certificate does not go through, no matter how convincingly the instruction is written or where it came from. The certificate can only narrow, and the module that issues it never sees untrusted text at all.
The data axis. Everything read from an untrusted source is remembered, and the arguments of subsequent calls are checked against that memory. An irreversible action (moving money, deleting, sending outward) answers to any match; a reversible one answers only to a match on the target, that is, on an address, a path or an identifier. Otherwise work would stop at the first meaningful answer.
The axis also answers the fact of the read itself, not only a match. The adversarial battery measured why a match is not enough: the attacks that walked past it — a paraphrase, an encoding, a clean curl command — share no recorded byte with the page that ordered them, and no string comparison will ever see them. So a session that read untrusted content is marked, and a call that acts beyond reading escalates while the mark stands, unless the user named the call's destination in their own message: "the user asked to send the logs here" written on a page is not the user asking. Measured on the battery's working profile, the attack success rate drops from 79% to 7%; the residue and the price are in docs/adversarial-report.md. The price is friction: after an untrusted read, a consequential call waits until the user names its destination. The rule is switched off with exposure: false in the policy; cordon doctor says out loud when it is off, and the other axes keep working.
The output axis. Some attacks produce no action at all: the recommendation itself is poisoned. Both of the first two axes miss those by construction. The third one blocks nothing; it shows the human which sources the answer matched verbatim, and it can say "not corroborated" while being unable to say "corroborated".
Underneath all of it lies neutralization: whatever was hidden from the human is removed from the text, and whatever was removed is named. A finding remains a risk signal, not a verdict.
A plugin for Claude Code. One file bound to four harness events: the user's message, a tool call, a tool result, the display of the model's answer. The hidden layer is stripped before the result reaches the model, and a call whose effect class is not in the certificate does not go through, however convincingly the instruction is written. Stripping happens where the human sees rendered output: from a web page, but not from a file the human opens as source in full.

There is no build step: the bundled file ships in the repository ready to run, because an installed plugin has neither node_modules nor package.json next to it. What is configurable and what Cordon does not do is written in docs/install.md. To check the install: cordon doctor.

gemini extensions install https://github.com/ilyautov/cordonCordon does not promise identical behaviour on the two harnesses, and the main difference fits in one line: here there is nothing to replace a tool result with, so a poisoned result is rejected whole and the cleaned text travels in the rejection reason. The remaining differences and their consequences are listed in docs/install-gemini.md and in the output of cordon doctor.
A gateway for MCP hosts. Claude Desktop, Cursor and any other MCP host get the same three axes without hooks at all: cordon mcp -- npx server-x is a stdio proxy that starts the server itself, cleans tool descriptions and results, and gates every tools/call — a refused call never reaches the server. The blind spots are named up front: the host's built-in tools go past MCP, the exposure mark is not lifted inside a session (there are no user turns over MCP, so the human's naming is written into the policy as task:), and one gateway process serves one upstream. The direction of failure is better than the hooks': a dead gateway is a dead server, not a silent pass. Configuration and the full list are in docs/install-mcp.md.
A middleware for LangChain agents. An agent built on createAgent (LangChain.js v1) gets the same three axes as a middleware in its own loop: createCordonMiddleware(...) feeds the user's message on beforeModel — the certificate, the user-named atoms and the lifting of the exposure mark work exactly as on the hooks — and gates every tool call on wrapToolCall: a refused call never runs and the model reads the reason as the tool's error output, a rewritten one runs with the untrusted fragment cut out of the arguments, and every result is observed and cleaned. langchain is a peer dependency your application already has; Cordon's bundle does not pull it in. The blind spots: a tool answering with a Command or a non-text block cannot be cleaned (the session is marked, and the next consequential call escalates), and the source-influence footer does not exist on this transport. The usage example and the full list are in docs/install-langchain.md.

The absence of a note corroborates nothing: paraphrase is invisible here.
The wording is literal on purpose. Cordon names the sources the answer matches verbatim and does not presume to judge paraphrase. The footer can say "not corroborated" and cannot say "corroborated": the success rate of output manipulation rises from 39 to 77 percent as the number of distinct source domains grows from one to three, so "many sources and different domains" means the opposite of reliability. The absence of a footer means nothing at all: paraphrase is entirely invisible here. The footer never enters the model's context, otherwise it would itself become an injection carrier on the next turn. It is switched off with output: {footer: false} in the policy, and the other axes keep working.
Session state does not accumulate forever. Every hook event is a separate process, so the provenance of what was read and the accumulated answer text live on disk, in ~/.cordon/sessions/ and ~/.cordon/drafts/. That is content that came from untrusted sources, and there is no reason for it to sit there indefinitely: session state is deleted a day after the last event, accumulated answer text after an hour. The sweep runs opportunistically, on the user's message, and no more than once an hour: Cordon has no daemon, and walking a directory on every tool call would violate the primary requirement for the hot path — being fast. Files of the session currently in progress are never touched, at any age.
cordon scan strips the hidden layer and prints the list of findings.

The same module is available as a library. The package is not published to npm yet, so imports come from the built copy:

The bottom three kinds are risk axes, not removal axes. Text in alt, Latin letters inside a Russian word and an embedded base64 blob are legitimate all the time, and cutting them would break useful work.

The most important section in this file. Cordon works on one narrow stretch, and it is more honest to name the boundaries of that stretch up front.
It has been verified on one live harness, not two. Claude Code 2.1.236 was run with the hooks in place and the whole path was watched from the outside: the four events fire, a call outside the certificate is refused, a link that came out of a read file is refused, the source-influence footer appears under the answer, and a quarantined argument is applied by the harness — the file came out with the untrusted line missing while the model's own account said it was there. The record, with the journal lines, is in docs/live-run.md. Gemini CLI has had no live run: its events, their names and the shape of a rewrite are all different, and nothing measured here transfers to it.
It does not protect against jailbreaking the model itself. When the user breaks their own model, the victim and the attacker are the same person. That is the model vendor's job, not the job of a border layer between content and actions.
It does not judge the truthfulness of visible text. A review saying "our product is the best, buy only from us" stays in the text untouched: it is indistinguishable from ordinary marketing, because that is what it is. Any detector that catches this catches everything else along with it. Cordon makes hidden influence visible; it makes no claim on open persuasion.
Hidden CSS is not caught in full. Text in the background colour is recognized only when the background is declared in the same inline style. A lone color:#fff without a declared background is passed over: that exact declaration sits in every dark section of a normal site where the background comes from a class. An attacker who knows this will write color:#fff and count on the page being white. For the same reason display:none via a class from an external <style>, <input type="hidden"> and max-height:0;overflow:hidden are deliberately passed over. This is a choice in favour of having no false positives: a module that screams on every other honest page gets switched off on day one, and coverage becomes zero.
A word written entirely in another script is not caught at all. сор.com typed in Cyrillic instead of cop.com contains no script mixing: there is one script inside the word. Catching this requires a confusable table, and that table fires on any honest Russian word made of letters with Latin twins. The Russian word "сор" exists. Telling substitution from an ordinary word here is possible only from position in the document, and the neutralization module does not know positions and must not.
Percent-encoding is bypassed with a slash. An escaped byte sequence is decoded only when it does not sit inside a link. Inside a link it is passed over, because percent-encoding exists precisely so that a link can carry human text. Any prefix with a slash in the same token takes the sequence out of decoding, and the attacker chooses the position.
It does not distinguish markdown from HTML. Cordon reads text as text, so markup inside a markdown code block is parsed as real: a block with display:none quoted in documentation as an example will be stripped just like genuine hiding. The reverse case is handled: mentioning a single tag name in prose yields no finding, because it has no closing tag and there is nothing to hide in an empty tag. The price of that rule is that an unclosed raw block on a real page stays in the text.
The footer does not see paraphrase, which makes it learnable. Matching against a source is verbatim, in windows of 32 characters. An attacker who knows this will ask for a paraphrase, and the output axis goes silent entirely. In the steady state it therefore catches a non-adaptive attacker and stays silent on an adaptive one, and silence reads as "Cordon saw nothing". This is why the line saying that the absence of a note corroborates nothing stands in every footer and cannot be removed.
Source independence is checked by letters only. If two reviews carry a verbatim shared paragraph, Cordon will say so. If they carry one thought in different words, it will say nothing. Affiliate and sponsorship ties are invisible by domain in principle: that would require a registry of such ties, and there is none. The list of syndication outlets is finite and goes stale; a new reprint outlet is not recognized until the list is edited. The reverse error exists too: two honest articles quoting the same paragraph of a law will be called non-independent, because there is no mechanical way to tell a shared third-party quotation from coordinated praise.
The subject's name comes from the domain only. Cordon can say "only itself vouches for it" about a site whose page the agent read, and can say nothing about a subject whose pages were not read. Extracting names from arbitrary text would mean guessing, and a guess inside a trust annotation is worse than silence.
Not a sandbox and not an antivirus. Cordon reads text as text. What a launched command does, which files a script writes and where a process connects, it does not see, and that is covered at the operating-system level, not by a library.
Does it block injections? By the content of the text, no, and it never will: blocking by content is exactly the detector that paraphrase defeats. The action gate blocks, and it does not care where the model got the intent. A call outside the certificate fails identically whether an injection invented it or the model erred on its own.
Why doesn't a finding fail the build? Because a finding is a fact about text, not a decision about an action. The decision belongs to the policy, which has the context of the task. scan has no context, therefore it has no right to forbid.
Will it start complaining about my technical documentation? Checking that is part of the build. The repository holds a loyalty corpus: texts about injections, documentation with Greek symbols for quantities, non-European scripts and legitimate base64. Findings of kind invisible, hidden-html and mixed-script on those files fail CI. The project's own README is checked by the same command in the self-scan step.
Are keys or internet access needed? No. All parsing is local and deterministic, with two runtime dependencies: htmlparser2 and yaml.
Does it work with PDF and DOCX? The input is text or HTML. Extracting text from a document is the caller's job; Cordon starts after that.
Why aren't alt and title stripped? Because they carry meaning for a screen-reader user and for search. Instructions do turn up in alt, so such text is flagged as annotation, but the text stays where it is.

npm run buildThe loyalty corpus in tests/fixtures/loyalty/ verifies that the tool stays silent on legitimate texts, including texts about injections. Breaking it is not allowed: a tool that cannot be used while developing that same tool is not ready. A false positive on a corpus sample is a defect in the module, not a reason to remove the sample.
The attack corpus in tests/fixtures/attacks.ts pins 18 vectors, each of which once passed the filter unnoticed. It lives as a module rather than as data files for one reason: invisible characters are written as escape sequences and are therefore visible during review. A literal character in a file is indistinguishable from emptiness in a diff.
