macFUSE (previously known as osxFUSE) allows you to extend macOS's native file handling capabilities via third-party file systems.

As a user, installing the macFUSE software package will let you use any third-party file system written atop macFUSE. As a developer, you can use the macFUSE SDK to write numerous types of new file systems as regular user space programs.
