Changes to the kernel package must be merged into main first, and then this PR must be rebased. Also, some script verification unit tests may need to be removed, as they are already covered by the conformance tests.

Updated to exercise pre-release v0.0.4-alpha.pr19.1 of the conformance tests.
Changes to the kernel package (refactoring callback interfaces to use go interfaces instead of structs) should be merged first as a separate PR.
